Love this game

Wish they made more games in the myst family

Great Game, incomplete video content

In my opinion, this is one of the greatest games ever made! And here we have a fully functional version for the iOS, which is more than can be said for Mac OS X. The touch controls are minimal and functional. Only a few hotspots in the game are almost too small to find, even with previous knowledge of the game, for which a helpful hotspot highlighting feature has been added. Sadly, however, some of the original QuickTime video content in various parts of the game seems to be missing, most notably the oh-so-cool animations for the topographical grid puzzle. They have simply been omitted! Whether this is for space constrains (lame) or interface constraints (they could have figured this out), I couldn’t say, but it definitely threw a wrench in my experience just a little. Other videos seem more compressed than in the original game, though this might be an idealistic memory at work. Perhaps they have fixed this in the iPad version, I don’t know. In any case, this is a great game, and one of the only legitimate ways to play it currently, so get it!

Truly an adventure

Well, I just finished playing Riven through for the first time in two years. The melancholy of reaching the end of a good story is settling in, and I may just have to play it through once more to stave it off. These games are so creative and rich. There are hardly any interactions with characters, yet its all still so alive. You really do feel like youre there, running around and exploring the islands yourself. Maybe Ill play Myst first, and then Riven- back to back? I dont have a problem. I can stop anytime I want.

Uumm, can i have my $ back

Umm, not what i expected… very disappointed… already deleted it

Truly classic love this game

This is one of my favorite old school game that was WAY ahead of its time in graphics. The puzzles till this day are some of the best that game devs try to emulate. (The Room)

Great port. Great gameplay.

I bought this game in 1998 and never finished it. Playing this on iOS seemed like it would not make sense, in terms of a mouse versus a touchscreen but I tried it anyway. It turned out to be really easy to play and soon I didnt even notice I didnt have a mouse. Gameplay was smooth and the game clipped along. For those parts I finished in 1998, the gameplay was identical to iOS as far as I can recall. Now Im going to download and play through Myst.

Love it!

Just like when Myst came out, this one also reminds me of the good old days playing it on my Performa 6400. I just hope that they release all of the Myst series and not stop with just the two.

Hello nostalgia!

My dad had this game when I was little. I played it when I was maybe 7 or 8. For years I have been trying to figure out what the game was and a simple Google search solved that. Some reviewers give dont understand that this game predates N64 or well it was around the same time. But there wasnt technology for the visually stunning games we have now. But the game still holds up!

An Appeal for a proper re-release of Riven for iPhone

Dear Cyan, Its a terrible shame that a legendary game I bought upon its release 18 years ago played perfectly on a 60MHz Power Mac with 12 MB RAM is crippled into a neutered, compressed blurry mess with embarassingly jerky or missing animations when played on a 1.4GHz A8 dual core iPhone with 1GB RAM. And yes I understand this is partially due to the FORMER app store limit of 2GB download size for apps since 2008 (which has had workarounds with in app content downloads) AND as of Feb 2015 has been increased to 4GB so now is the time to rework the game to an acceptable quality, (the original taking up no more than 3.25GB spanned over five 650MB CD-ROMs.) *THE LEAST you can do is have an intern take a few hours to recompile the improved iPad version to be playable on retina iPhones.* And PLEASE GRANT ME A REFUND for now until you do one of the abovementioned tasks to redeem this sad excuse for a port, then I will gladly re-purchase. This is actually the FOURTH time Ive bought this game already (5CD, 1DVD, Steam, iPhone.) And it wont be the last with starry expanse in development, though the iPhone port is the only one i truly regret spending my money on. Best regards, Landon Thomas Humphreys

Will Never Get Old

After finishing Myst, I immediately bought this one to continue the story. I really hope you guys could make iOS versions of the other games as well, such as Exile. I know Id pay for it!! Fantastic game with an even greater story. Hope to see the others up soon.

Pleeeeeeease add exile to the iOS series

I love the game and I loved myst and I am currently playing exile on my pc, but it is really inconvenient because I really want to play exile throughout the day but I am not at my computer all day as with most people, so I really hope that exile is added soon.

As intriguing as I remember it being

The game is just as intriguing as I remember and much faster due to the speedy processors today versus the processors available when the game released on PC.

Buggy Update

I played the previous version of Riven on my new iPhone 6sPlus with no major issues except for the Game Center window. This version introduces an interesting bug when attempting to input the dome code. It’s very difficult to get the dome to accept the code. I haven’t figured out the touch pattern for it, but if a code is input and the button is double tapped, the interface zooms too far out and doesn’t accept the code. So far, I’ve had to attempt an input at least 20 or so times before it’s accepted. This definitely puts a wrench in speed run times.

Missing clue

Wow, glad I can play this again. Every little thing sends rushes of nostalgia for my early computer exploration. Buuuuut.... On prison island, an important audio clue goes entirely unheard. Where is it? Whats the code? The game, I think, is unbeatable without this clue. Ghens globe clock must make sounds. It must.

Good Memories on an iPhone.

Ive played nearly every edition of Riven. The story for me doesnt get old; However, the reason for this review, is why you should get it. Riven is a game with a lot of attention to detail for its time. The story is told through exploring the world youre in. There are no defined quests except, the story itself. Youll find yourself in a world, not sure of whats going on at first. As you explore, you find challenge through puzzles and, curiosity goes a long way to figuring out the world... From a technical side, this version seems to work well. It is missing some visual elements; however, knowing the game like I do, I played all the major elements rather quickly and found no major game or story breaking bugs. If youre new to the point and click (tap and go) adventure game genre. This is and Myst (also developed by Cyan) are the games that set the standard. It really has a lot to offer, if youre in no rush and want to explore everything.

Cant use it

So far, the opening movies worked, but then all I get is still pictures. I cant move around and explore like you can in MYST. Is this a bug or is this the way its supposed to be? Its not enticing at all like this.

Too pixelated

I am very disappointed. The graphics were pixelated. Fine I can deal with that. But when you need to use sliders and the image is so pixelated you came solve the puzzle is very unacceptable. I suggest no one buys this game until an update is made to fix this. Especially the linking books. To pixelated to see where the sliders are to go.

I love hating it!

Its so crazy to walk in circles and then finally see a lever you didnt see and move forward, great feeling

Better on iPad

Riven is my favorite game of all time. If you have an iPad or a computer get that version. Playing riven on a small screen you will miss not only puzzle related elements but also the full beauty of this world. There are small details everywhere. For this version if you double tap u can zoom in on areas but note that isnt normal for other versions. Really this port is great still for iPod and is still better than any point and click ever. having played the game many times I dont have an issue and its great to be able to link to riven at any time

Not as good as the PC version

I love the Myst series. Great puzzles, great interaction with the enviroment, etc. But the iOS versions as not a good portrail of how good this company and this series really are. Because of the size of the game, it lags really bad, each time you move you have to wait10-20 seconds for the screen to become clear. The controls are appropriate if you have a mouse, but push screen is difficult as I frequently got moved to a different area because something that needed to be interacted with was too close to the place you push to walk. I was excited when I saw these in the app store, but the quality just isnt there when compared to the old PC games.
